Strengthening an Enabling Environment for Quality, Inclusive, and Adaptive Education

Education is a wide-ranging thematic area in the Philippines that cuts across different age groups or life stages, geographic locations, needs, target competencies, and convergence with various government agencies. The program will focus on specific program areas based on national, regional, and provincial priorities anchored on development plans such as the Basic Education Development Plan 2030 (defined as the first long-term plan for basic education covering formal education from five (5) to 18 years old and non-formal education for youth and adults), national assessment reports from EDCOM 2 (defined as the national commission tasked to undertake a comprehensive national assessment and evaluation of the performance of the Philippine education sector), and institutional programs of National Government Agencies (NGAs) such as DepEd Region 5’s Learning Recovery Program and Integrated Learning Experiences.

Our projects for Education

Project UPGRADE

This project focuses on learners in Grades 1, 2, and 3, who are classified as struggling, emerging, or developing readers from selec public elementary schools in the municipality of Manito, Albay, and the municipalities of Castilla and Donsol in Sorsoson. It will introduce alternative elements of play, music, and movement in teaching beginning reading concepts such as phonological awareness and letter recognition.

Project UPFRONT

Existing references and literature concerning “child wellbeing” predominantly originate from perspective foreign to the Philippines. There is no direct translation of “wellbeing” (as envisioned by the west) in the local languages of the Philippines, and carelessly applying such a lens without due diligence would only disempower and possibly harm the affected Filipino population.
