COTABATO CITY, PHILIPPINES — A new dawn for early grade learners is unfolding in the heart of Bangsamoro. In a powerful alliance for the future, Educo Philippines and ECOWEB have officially launched Project RISE: Reading Initiatives for Schools and Empowered Homes.

This strategic intervention is designed to bridge the literacy gap and fortify the resilience of young learners in some of Cotabato City’s most vulnerable communities. The project will utilize a three-pronged strategy – Contextualized Learning by providing reading kits and materials that reflect the local culture and reality, making stories relatable and engaging, Empowered Educators, reinforcing teacher capacity through specialized training and modern pedagogical tools, and Home-Based Support, recognizing that learning doesn’t end when the school bell rings, the project empowers parents to become active partners in their children’s literacy journey.
The success of Project RISE rests on a foundation of radical collaboration. By working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE), the Schools Division of Cotabato City, and the Local Government of Cotabato City, the project ensures that its impact is both systemic and sustainable.
This will also be enhanced by the conduct of the Child Rights and Wellbeing Situational Analysis (CRWSA) in Cotabato City, to be facilitated by another new local partner organization in this endeavor, Ha Uman Association. This will add context on the attainment and gaps experienced by children in terms of their rights.
In a region where emergencies—whether environmental or socio-political—can often disrupt schooling, Project RISE acts as a safety net. It is a commitment to ensuring that foundational reading skills remain a priority, guaranteeing continuous learning even in the face of adversity.
As Educo Philippines and ECOWEB roll out these initiatives, the message is clear: when we empower a child to read, we empower a community to rise. By investing in the formative years of Grades 1-3, Project RISE is not just building better students; it is building a more resilient and literate future for Cotabato City.
“Education is a right, and it must be sustained amidst challenges.”
