Educo Philippines proudly marked a significant milestone in its commitment to child rights and welfare by participating in the 11th National Social Science Congress (NSSC), held from September 18 to 20, 2025, in Baguio City. With the theme “Munting Tinig: Amplifying Children’s Voices Through Social Research in the Philippines,” this year’s congress served as an essential platform for scholars, academic institutions, civil society organizations, government agencies, and advocates in the field of social sciences to come together and discuss the country’s most pressing social issues, placing a strong emphasis on the often-underrepresented sector, the children.

Educo Philippines took part in this prestigious national event by presenting two substantial research papers: “Child Rights and Wellbeing Analysis 2024” and “Upfront: An Explorative Study on the Perceptions, Beliefs, and Understanding Towards Filipino Child Wellbeing.” These research studies were shared by Jodel Ampil (Education Sector Specialist) and Myra Mangampo (Program Officer), with support from one of the research consultants, Riza Flores.
The sessions fell under the breakout panel discussion on Understanding Child Wellbeing: Perceptions, Influences, and Vulnerabilities, together with two other presentations focused on orphanage for abandoned children and programs for disadvantaged children through sports development. These sessions provoked reflective discussions that touch on nuanced perceptions, cultural influences, and systemic vulnerabilities that shape the lived experiences of Filipino children. The said two research were recognized for its depth, relevance, and potential to inform evidence-based programming and policy development, reinforcing the critical role of inclusive, data-driven approaches in promoting the holistic well-being of children.

The audience responded with keen interest and deep engagement, particularly noting the grounded, community-based approach of the research and its relevance in shaping child-focused programs and policies. The presentation inspired a series of discussions and exchanges of experiences on conducting ethical and participatory research involving children. The research papers not only highlighted current issues surrounding child well-being in the Philippines but also demonstrated the importance of listening to children directly, understanding their environments, and crafting data-driven responses to their unique needs and rights.
The significance of Educo’s participation in the 11th NSSC lies not only in the dissemination of research findings but also in the broader affirmation of its organizational approach. As a child rights organization, Educo continues to anchor on research initiatives as part of program development, ensuring that interventions are responsive, inclusive, and grounded in the realities of the communities it serves. The two studies presented are the result of extensive fieldwork, community consultations, and inclusive dialogue with children, rights holders, and duty bearers. This approach reinforces the belief that meaningful child participation and credible data are critical to designing and implementing programs that truly make a difference.
The National Social Science Congress is more than just a gathering of researchers, it is a convergence of minds seeking to address inequality, social injustice, and human development through timely research and advocacy initiatives. This year’s focus on children underscored the urgent need to bring their perspectives into national conversations and give them “a seat in the table.” Educo’s participation in this congress is a testament to its unwavering dedication to putting children at the center of its work, ensuring that their voices are not only heard but also acted upon.

Educo Philippines remains steadfast in its commitment to conduct rigorous, participatory research that informs programmatic decisions, policy advocacy, and community engagement. We believe that understanding lived realities of the children, through research that is ethical, inclusive, and empowering, is key to achieving sustainable development and social justice. By engaging with national research platforms like the NSSC, Educo continues to champion evidence-based strategies and foster collaboration with academic institutions, civil society organizations, development workers, and policymakers who share the same goal to create a just, equitable, and child-friendly society.
Through this initiative, Educo Philippines reaffirms its role not just as a development organization but as a contributor to the growing body of knowledge that upholds children’s rights and promotes their holistic well-being. We look forward to continued collaboration, learning, and action as we collectively strive to ensure that every child’s voice is heard, respected, and valued in the spaces that shape their future.
